The Hatchling plan is excellent if you only have one website or are entirely new to starting a site of your own.
You can quickly scale up to another plan at any time whenever you need to.
The most popular Hostgator plan is the baby plan. The baby plan lets you have unlimited sites with your Hostgator account.

You will see the tab where it says .com. You can click the tab to change the domain extension to a .net, .org, etc.
I recommend you use a .com if you can as this is the most popular domain extension.
If the domain name is showing it is unavailable, Hostgator will let you know. It will show you other domain extensions that are available with your domain name.
You can also try adding another word like the or add a hyphen somewhere in your domain name so that it will be available.
If you already own your domain name from another domain provider like Namecheap or Godaddy you will click the tab I already own this domain name and enter the domain name that you already own.

If you don’t already own your domain name and are purchasing it with Hostgator, you will see an area where you select to have domain privacy for your domain or not.
I highly recommend you go with the domain privacy option for your domain name.
Domain privacy protects your personal information, and you won’t have to worry about telemarketers reaching out to you via phone and email all day.
If you go with domain privacy, your information will be protected because instead of your personal information showing Hostgator’s default information that they have set up will show.
If you already own your own domain name, you’ll need to change your nameservers to point to Hostgator from the domain registrar you purchased your domain name from.
