How To Install WordPress On Bluehost

There are seven steps to install WordPress on Bluehost. The steps consist of going to Bluehost, selecting a hosting plan, choosing a domain name, entering your account information, choosing a hosting term, choosing any Bluehost package extras, and entering your payment information.

Once completed Bluehost will automatically walk you through the steps needed to install and setup WordPress on Bluehost in which we go over step by step.

Let’s get started.

1. Go To

Once you click over to the Bluehost home page you want to select the green, get started now button.

2. Select A Hosting Plan

You will now be brought to a select a plan page. You will see four different plans you can choose from. A basic plan, plus, choice plus, and a pro plan.

The Basic Plan comes with one website and is a good plan for most starting out. You can always upgrade at a later date to one of the other plans if you need to.

The Plus Plan is a good plan if you are going to have more than one website as this plan includes unlimited sites and unlimited email addresses. The Plus plan also comes with Bluehost’s add-on feature spam experts which will help protect your site from hackers.

The Choice Plus Plan comes with unlimited sites, unlimited email addresses, the Bluehost spam expert add-on along with free domain privacy + protection. The Spam Expert add-on is an email filter that scans emails coming in to protect you from spam, phishing, and viruses.

The Pro plan comes with everything the Choice Plus Plan comes with plus a free Dedicated IP and the Bluehost add-on Site Backup – Codeguard Basic.

The backup add-on will save backups of your sites and allows you to backup your site to a previous version in case something happens with your site.

The Pro Plan I don’t really recommend when first starting out. You can upgrade to this plan as your site grows and you start bringing in lots of traffic and revenue. Completely up to you though.

3. Choose A Domain Name

The next step in our how to install WordPress on Bluehost guide is choosing a domain name. You will now be on a sign-up now page, where you can select your free domain name.

You’ll see create a domain, use a domain you own, and a link underneath saying I’ll create my domain later. If you already own a domain name just enter it in over on the right-hand side. If you want to choose your domain name at a later date click the I’ll create my domain later link.

Next, I’ll walk you through getting your own free domain name with Bluehost. Where it says, new domain just enter the domain name you would like to get to see if it is available or not. If you click the .com dropdown you can choose the domain extension you want to have for your domain.

I recommend going with a .com if you can as this is the most popular domain extension. Completely up to you though. Once you select the domain you would like to have click the next button.

Bluehost will now let you know if your domain name is available or not. If it’s available it’ll say available.

If the domain name you chose is unavailable it’ll let you know. You can search for a new domain name below. If your domain name is unavailable you could try a different domain extension, adding a -, adding another word in the domain, or choose another domain name.

Something to note is that if you bought your domain from a provider other than Bluehost, you would need to point your nameservers over to Bluehost.

If you purchased your domain name with Godaddy, I’ve got a step-by-step guide going over how to point your GoDaddy domain to Bluehost.

If you bought your domain name with Namecheap, here’s a helpful guide going over how to point Namecheap Domain to Bluehost.

4. Enter Your Account Information

The next step in our how to install WordPress on Bluehost post is entering your account information.

After you enter your account information, you want to complete the package information.

5. Choose A Hosting Term

If you select the dropdown found next to account plan, you can choose the term you would like to purchase with Bluehost. You will see you will get the best discount the longer out you purchase your Bluehost hosting. You will see your domain registration is free along with the free SSL Certificate from Let’s Encrypt.

An SSL Certificate protects your customer’s information that is sensitive such as usernames, passwords, and credit card numbers. Having an SSL Certificate nowadays is a must as this is a ranking factor that Google uses when ranking sites.

6. Choose Package Extras

Next, you will see package extras. You will see 5 different Bluehost add-ons to choose. These add-ons are completely optional and up to you to get. You can always upgrade to one at a later time.

An add-on that I recommend is Bluehost Domain Privacy + Protection. This add-on will keep your personal contact information safe and keep it from going out to telemarketers and spammers always trying to sell you their services.

If you choose Domain Privacy + Protection, Bluehost will show their default contact information instead of your own.

Bluehost Codeguard basic is an add-on that backs up your site daily and you restore your site to a previous backup with a click of a button. This can come in handy in case something happens to your site. You can easily get it back to where it was.

Bluehost SEO Tools Start is an add-on that will give you a detailed plan that you can take action on as the add-on provides a personalized marketing report. It will also help you use the right keywords for your site so that your site can be found for those keywords.

The add-on will also automatically submit your site to search engines without you having to create a Google Webmasters account and doing so manually. Once your site is on the web Google will crawl your site especially if you are using WordPress for your site. WordPress is great for SEO.

I don’t recommend this add-on but you might find the free reports and advice they give you helpful.

Office 365 mailbox add-on isn’t necessary. Bluehost already comes with free email accounts. This add-on can be helpful if you like the way Microsoft Outlook looks and would like to do email through there without purchasing Microsoft Office 365 outside of Bluehost hosting.

Sitelock Security-Essential is an add-on that will protect your site from malware and malicious attacks.

There are two free security plugins that I highly recommend for WordPress that are completely free and they are WordFence Security and Sucuri Security. These two plugins will protect your site and work great. Highly recommend either one of these two for security.

7. Enter Payment Information

Next, scroll down to the payment information section and enter your payment information and select the, “I agree to the Terms of Service, Cancellation Policy, and Privacy Policy.

Click the green Submit button to complete your purchase. You have now successfully signed up and purchased Bluehost. Next, Bluehost will automatically walk you through the steps in getting WordPress installed and set up.

Bluehost will now email you your login credentials to Bluehost along with some welcome emails. One of the emails you will need to verify your domain name if you chose to get a free one with your Bluehost hosting account.

Next, you will see a page where you want to choose a password for your account. Click the create your password button.

Next, enter the password credentials that you would like to have. Make sure you select that you agree to Bluehost’s terms and conditions and click the next button.

You will now see a congratulations page. Click the blue login button to continue in installing WordPress on Bluehost.

Bluehost will now showcase some free WordPress themes that you can choose from for your site. If you see one feel free to select one. You can also click skip this step underneath and pick from thousands of free WordPress themes in the WordPress dashboard.

I’ll show you how to do that later in our how to install WordPress on Bluehost guide.

After you choose a free theme or you click skip this step you’ll be at the page stating all done. Click the start building button to be taken to the WordPress dashboard where you can begin in creating your site.

Thank you! Bluehost doesn’t offer monthly payments at this time. You’ll need to purchase annually. I recommend you check out our web hosting deals page or the deals found on our home page. There are some hosting providers that offer monthly payments.
