Overview of Bitcoin

Bitcoin was launched in 2009 and became the first cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is a digital currency existing only online. Bitcoin is a decentralized form of cash that takes out the middlemen, such as banks and governments, for financial transactions.

Bitcoin is powered through a network of individuals, which is known as peer-to-peer technology.

Bitcoin is used for the following

Bitcoin is used to buy and sell items from people and businesses that accept Bitcoin as a payment method.

Ways to store Bitcoins

There are two ways in which you can store Bitcoins. You can store them in two kinds of digital wallets, known as a hot wallet or a cold wallet.

A hot wallet is a digital currency connected to the internet, stored in the cloud, and stored on a trusted exchange or provider, and accessed through a browser on your computer, desktop computer, or an app on your smartphone device.

A cold wallet is not connected to the internet like a hot wallet is. The cold wallet is an encrypted portable device like a thumb drive, and it allows you to download bitcoins and carry bitcoins.

As time goes on and Bitcoin and cryptocurrency get more and more popular, there is a chance that a lot of hosting providers will accept Bitcoin. But for now, the options are limited.

How To Build A Website With Bluehost

Let’s get started with our guide on how to build a website with Bluehost. To start out, we want to sign up with Bluehost.

Click here to open up Bluehost to get your hosting plus a free domain name. You will be on the Bluehost home page. Click the green get started button.

bluehost-home-page

You will now be on the Bluehost page where you can choose between four different Bluehost plans. You can choose between a Basic, Plus, Choice Plus, and a Pro plan.

You’ll see the cost of Bluehost runs for as low as $2.95 a month.

bluehost-plans

The Basic plan works fine for most. This plan is good if you are only going to have one website.

bluehost-basic-plan

If you want to have unlimited email accounts or if you have more than one website you’d want to go with the Plus plan. The Plus plan comes with Spam Experts and a free 30 day trial of Office 365 mailbox.

Spam Experts is an email filtering system that will scan emails coming in to make sure there are no viruses or spam coming in.

The Office 365 mailbox is optional, but it might be worth giving it a try if you go with this plan.

bluehost-plus-plan

The Choice Plus plan comes with all the features that the Plus plan comes with and more. The Choice Plus plan comes with the additional add-ons Bluehost Domain Privacy + Protection and Bluehost Codeguard Basic.

Bluehost Domain Privacy + Protection keeps your personal contact information safe not letting it get out to where telemarketers can contact you selling you their services or spammers.

Bluehost Codeguard Basic is an add-on that backups your site daily and allows you to restore your site with a click of a button. If something happens to your site you can easily get it back to the way it was.

bluehost-choice-plus-plan

The Pro plan I don’t recommend from the get-go. I recommend upgrading to this plan if you need to once your traffic and revenue grows. The Pro plan comes with everything that the Choice Plus plan comes with and a Dedicated IP and 2 Spam Experts allowing two of your email addresses to have a spam filter.

bluehost-pro-plan

The next step in our how to build a website with Bluehost guide is to pick out a free domain name. You will see where you can choose and create a new domain, enter a domain name that you already own, or create a domain name later.

If you choose to create your free domain name later you can do so from your Bluehost account. If you already have your own domain name from another provider you can type it in and click the next buttton.

Next, I’ll walk you through getting your free domain name. Input a domain name that you would like. You will see where you can pick out your domain extension where you see the .com dropdown.

I recommend you go with a .com if you can as this is the most popular domain extension. Most people refer to sites with .com so it can make it easier for your site visitors to find you if they are typing in your specific URL.

The domain extension .net is another popular and good domain extension to use. The domain extension you go with though is entirely up to you. Click the next button when you have a domain name that you want.

bluehost-choose-domain-extension

Bluehost will now let you know if the domain name you chose is available or not. If it’s available it’ll say available.

bluehost-domain-name-available

If your domain is unavailable it’ll let you know. If your domain name is unavailable you can search for a new one. If you want to have the domain name you entered you could try using a different domain extension, adding a -, adding another word to the domain name.

bluehost-domain-name-unavailable

I do want to mention that if you purchased your domain name from another provider, you would need to point your nameservers to Bluehost.

If you bought your domain name with GoDaddy here’s a post going over how to point your GoDaddy domain to Bluehost.

Purchased your domain name from Namecheap? Here’s a post going over how to point your Namecheap domain to Bluehost.

Next, in our how to build a website with Bluehost guide is to put in your account information.

bluehost-account-information

Right under the account information section, you will see package information.

bluehost-package-information

Next, we want to choose a hosting term. Click on the dropdown next to account plan.

Account plan is where you will choose your hosting term. You’ll see 12, 24, or 36 months. You will see the Bluehost price per month is cheaper the farther out you purchase your Bluehost hosting for.

You will see that the domain name registration is free along with Let’s Encrypt SSL.

bluehost-account-plan

If you aren’t familiar with what SSL is, SSL protects your customer’s information such as their password, username, and credit card information from malicious hackers.

bluehost-lets-encrypt-ssl-certificate

Search engines like Google will rank sites higher that are using SSL as this is one of the ranking factors. To know if a site is secure or not you can go to a site and look in the browser and you will see HTTPS instead of HTTP before the domain name along with a green lock icon.

You will now see a few add-on services that Bluehost offers under the next section called Bluehost Package Extras. These are entirely up to you to get. You can add any of them at a later date if you aren’t sure about them now.

bluehost-package-extras

Domain Privacy + Protection I highly recommend. The Domain Privacy + Protection keeps your personal contact information secure not showing it on the web where telemarketers and spammers can get ahold of it. With the Domain Privacy + Protection add-on Bluehost’s information will be shown and not yours.

bluehost-domain-privacy-protection

Codeguard Basic is an add-on that will backup your site daily and allows you to restore your site with a click of a button. If something happens to your site you can just restore it to a previous version where your site was okay.

bluehost-codeguard-basic

Bluehost SEO Tools Start is an add-on that will provide you a personalized marketing report so that you can optimize your site to help with ranking for keywords. Bluehost SEO Tools Start will also automatically submit your site to search engines.

I do want to note that your site will be indexed and crawled by Google and other search engines on its own without the automatic submission. I don’t recommend this Bluehost add-on but you might find the report and helpful advice it gives you regarding the SEO of your site helpful.

bluehost-seo-tools-start

The add-on Office 365 mailbox isn’t really necessary. You might find this useful if you want to have your email account in Microsoft Outlook and love the design of it.

bluehost-microsoft-office-365-mailbox

The next add-on is Bluehost Sitelock Security-Essential. Sitelock Security-Essential protects your site from malware and malicious attacks.

bluehost-sitelock-security-essential

Next, in our guide on how to build a website with Bluehost, you want to enter your payment information. Make sure you select the I have read and agreed to Bluehost’s Terms of Service. Click the green submit button.

bluehost-payment-information

Bluehost is going to email you your Bluehost login credentials along with some welcome emails. One of the emails Bluehost will ask you to verify your domain name.

Make sure you do this, so your domain name doesn’t get canceled at a later date. If you purchased your domain name from another company, you don’t need to worry about this email.

Next, in our how to start a website using Bluehost guide, you will be asked to create a password. Click the create your password button.

When you sign up for Bluehost, you receive one Bluehost free domain name. Any additional domain names you would like to have you have to purchase additionally.

It is most common for people to buy their other domain names with a separate company like Namecheap or GoDaddy.

One of the biggest reasons why is pricing. Registering an additional domain with Bluehost will cost you $12.99 for the first year with the popular domain extensions .com, .net, and .org.

The renewal domain pricing is $19.99 a year after the initial term with the popular domain extensions .com, .net, and .org.

How To Add Addon Domain Using Bluehost Addon Domain Feature

Once you get your nameservers pointed to Bluehost, you can add addon domain using Bluehost addon domain feature.

To start, you want to go to Bluehost.com and login to your Bluehost hosting account. Once you login, you want to go to the domains tab in the left-side menu.

bluehost-domains

Once you click the domains tab a dropdown will show. You want to click add a domain in the menu.

bluehost-add-a-domain

Step 1: Enter Your Domain

If you purchased your domain names through Bluehost already, you want to pick the domain name that is associated with your account.

If you haven’t purchased additional domain names within your Bluehost account, you can choose to buy a domain. You can transfer in a domain name from another provider to Bluehost. Or you can add an external domain if your domain name is with another domain registrar.

bluehost-assign-domain

Step 2: Verify Domain Ownership

Once you select the top option or type in your domain URL, Bluehost will automatically verify the ownership of your domain by checking the name server of your domain name.

Bluehost will give you a few different ways you can verify ownership of your domain URL if needed.

bluehost-verify-domain-ownership
  • The first option is to update your nameservers to point to Bluehost.
  • The second option is to set the A record for the domain to point to the address given.
  • The third option is to create a page on your site.
  • The fourth option is to put in the EPP authorization code that you have to get from your domain registrar.

Step 3: Addon Domain or Parked Domain

Next, you want to add your domain as an addon domain or parked domain.

The difference between a Bluehost addon domain and a Bluehost parked domain is a Bluehost parked domain allows your main site to be reached via multiple domain names.

An addon domain is if you want to use the domain name as a separate site on its own.

For example, if you’re going to have a new WordPress blog or website, then you want to add your domain as an addon domain.

Step 4: Choose Addon Directory And Sub-Domain

Bluehost domain manager is going to automatically use your domain to give a directory to your domain name.

Your domain directory structure is going to look like public_html/newdomain.

An easier explanation of this is the files related to your primary domain are found under the public_html of your Bluehost account.

When a new domain name is added, a new directory is added under Public_html with the new domain name.

This makes it easy for individuals or webmasters to manage different file domains. For example, public_html/newdomainsite.

You want to select create a new directory and then click assign this domain.

That’s all there is to it! That is how to add Bluehost addon domain using the Bluehost addon domain feature.

How Do I Add A Second Domain To Bluehost?

Go to the Bluehost dashboard to add a second domain to your Bluehost web hosting account. Click Domains in the side menu. Click Assign. Choose the addon domain you’d like to have.

Complete the verify domain ownership if necessary. Assign the domain as the addon domain. You want to select the create a new directory option and click the assign button.

What Is The Difference Between A Primary And An Addon Domain In Bluehost?

The difference between a primary and an addon domain in Bluehost is a primary domain is the main domain associated with your account. It’s the first domain name you registered with your web hosting provider.

An addon domain is an additional domain on the same web hosting account that is a completely separate entity from the primary domain.

The addon domain is its own separate domain name where you can have a separate website unrelated to the primary domain.

What Is The Difference Between Parked And Addon Domain Bluehost?

The difference between a parked and an addon domain in Bluehost is a parked domain is an alias of your primary domain name.

The parked domain might be a different domain variation or end in a different domain extension that forwards to your primary domain or main domain on your web hosting account.

An Addon domain is a completely separate domain name from your primary domain. It just shares the same hosting account. It allows you to host multiple domains and host multiple websites in the same account.

Can I Have Multiple Domains On Bluehost?

Yes, you can have multiple domains on Bluehost with the Choice Plus, Online Store, or Pro plan. The Basic plan only allows for one website, so you’ll need to upgrade if wanting additional domains.

Free Blogging Platforms vs WordPress.org

Before we get started with our guide on how to start a WordPress blog on Bluehost, I want to go over a few essential things about free blogging platforms and free web hosting.

Why You Shouldn’t Choose Free Blogging Platforms

If you’ve thought about free blogging platforms, don’t do it! Run as fast as you can! Here’s why. You don’t own your site. For platforms like Blogger, you don’t legally own your site.

What is worse is if you ever decide to sell your blog while being on the platform and Google finds out Google will ban you for life. Trust me. You don’t want that.

Why Free Web Hosting Is Bad

The second thing I want to cover is free web hosting. Sounds great right? It’s not. Free web hosting providers are unreliable. At any time they can cancel your site or close up shop.

Another thing about free hosting is that these companies will put up advertisements on your site and you have no control of that. What’s crazy about this is that they profit off of these ads on YOUR blog or website yet you don’t get any of the money.

The last thing I want to cover about free blogging platforms and free hosting is that if you want your blog or site to rank well, get discovered, or make money from blogging, then you want to stay far away from them.

Great news! WordPress is the most popular blogging platform, and their platform keeps on growing. A ton of fortune 500 companies use the WordPress platform too.

Another cool thing is WordPress themselves recommend Bluehost for hosting on their blogging platform. Just another great reason to choose Bluehost when starting your WordPress blog.

Below is an overview of the steps we will be covering in starting your WordPress blog with Bluehost.

How To Start A WordPress Blog On Bluehost – Step-by-Step Guide

1. Registering your domain name for your blog

To get started, click here to start your WordPress blog on Bluehost and to get your free domain name. Woohoo! Once you click the link, you will be on the page that you see below.

bluehost-hosting

Before starting a WordPress blog on Bluehost, you want to come up with a domain name for your blog. Choosing a domain name can be tough, and you want to give some thought to this.

choose-blog-domain-name

The reasoning behind my blog name is the abbreviation for WordPress is WP. So that is where I came up with the WP at the beginning to stand for WordPress as this blog is dedicated to WordPress.

I have a background in marketing and advertising, so I wanted to come up with a theme where I could stand out. The word cupid came to mind, and then I started brainstorming branding colors, etc.

WP Cupid Blog became the name of my blog shortly after. I added the word blog at the end of the domain name to help with SEO and marketing once I got my blog started as I wanted to help people start a blog and grow it.

Some important things to remember when choosing a domain name is to make sure it isn’t too long. Make sure you choose a good domain extension. For example, .com, .org, .net, etc.

what-is-a-domain-extension

I recommend you go with a .com extension as .com is the most popular extension used online.

Once people know the name of your blog, they are more likely to put in your blog name with a .com naturally. So keep that in mind.

If for any reason you already have a domain name purchased, or you want to get it from another domain provider that is fine. When we get further in the guide, I will explain what to do.

But, remember! You get a free domain name with your hosting when you start a blog on Bluehost.

Once you have your domain name figured out go ahead and click the get started button. You will then be directed to the page that you see below.

bluehost-hosting-plans

You can choose from four different plans. The basic plan, choice plus plan, online store, and pro plan.

You will see the basic plan you can get hosting for as low as $1.99 a month and for the choice plus plan you can get hosting for as low as $3.99 a month.

The online store plan you get hosting for as low as $7.45 a month. The pro plan you can get hosting for as low as $9.99 a month.

Related: Bluehost pricing

Related: does Bluehost charge monthly

The basic plan works fine for almost everyone especially when you are first starting out and starting a blog on Bluehost. You can always upgrade to a different plan anytime you would like to.

If you are going to have more than one blog from the get-go then, you want to choose the choice plus plan as you can have 3 sites with this plan.

Related: how to add addon domain in Bluehost

The pro plan I recommend for established sites with lots of traffic and a good amount of revenue coming in.

Once you decide which plan you would like, just hit the green select button to move on to the next step in starting your WordPress blog.

Once you click the select button, you will be directed to a page as you see below in the next step of our how to start a WordPress blog on Bluehost guide.

Choose A Domain Name

You will now be on a sign-up now page where you want to enter the domain name that you want for your blog where it says new domain.

choose-bluehost-free-domain-name

You’ll see the .com next to it with some arrows. You can click on that area to pick your domain extension.

bluehost-free-domain-extensions-included

As I mentioned before I highly recommend you go with a .com, .net, or .org as these are most common.

If you already have a domain name that you purchased from another provider, you would just enter that domain name where it says I have a domain name.

Related: how to register a domain name with Namecheap

Remember you get a free domain name discount though! Once you do that, hit the next button to continue starting your blog on Bluehost.

Create Your Account

You will now be on a create your account page where you want to input your account information like your name, address, email address, etc.

bluehost-account-information

Once you fill out your account information, you want to move on to the plan information section right under.

You will see Service Term. Click that, and from the dropdown you will see you can choose to pay monthly, 12 months or 36 months.

You will see you will get the cheapest pricing with the 12-month term. Choose how many months you want to purchase your Bluehost hosting for.

You will see theย SSL Certificate is free, and the primary domain registration fee is free. Woohoo!

You’ll also see you’ll get free Domain Privacy + Protection for the 1st month.

Domain Privacy + Protection protects you from telemarketers getting a hold of your phone number or email and bother you trying to sell you stuff related to what you do. I would consider that option.

You can always add this option or any of them at a later date if you decide you want one of the selections.

Next,ย you will see the savings that you are saving by using our exclusive Bluehost link and then the total cost of the hosting for your blog.

Choosing a WordPress theme

The next step in our guide on how to start a WordPress blog on Bluehost is choosing a WordPress theme. Bluehost gives you the option to pick a free WordPress theme. They have lots of great options to choose from.

choose-wordpress-theme

The WordPress.org directory has a bunch of great options to choose from as well. Click here to check them out.

wordpress-free-theme-directory

I do want to touch base on free themes and some things to caution when using them. A majority of free WordPress themes are outdated. Since the themes are free developers, don’t stay up to date on updating them.

Due to this hackers can find loopholes in the theme and trust me you don’t want any hackers hacking into your site! Not all free themes lead to this, but you might want to research a little when choosing one to make sure they are safe and how often they are updated. You can always upgrade to a Premium theme at a later date if you would like.

A site I use and love for Premium themes is Mojo Marketplace. They have pre-made professional themes that are updated regularly and look like a design agency designed them.

mojo-marketplace-premium-blog-themes

One of the most popular WordPress blogging themes today is theย Divi theme by Elegant Themes. Over 500,000 bloggers have purchased this theme. A great feature about this theme is it comes with a drag and drop builder that makes designing and customizing your WordPress blog on Bluehost easy.

Does Bluehost Charge Monthly Or All At Once?

A common question I see being asked online about Bluehost is, does Bluehost charge monthly or all at once?

In this post, I’m going to be going in-depth on Bluehost and if they offer monthly payment plans and answer the question does Bluehost accept monthly payments or yearly plans so that you have a clear understanding of whether or not Bluehost charges monthly.

Weโ€™ll also explore alternative providers that offer monthly billing options, ensuring you make an informed decision for your websiteโ€™s hosting needs.

does-bluehost-charge-monthly-or-all-at-once

Short Summary

  • Bluehost does not currently offer monthly payments on its popular shared and WordPress hosting plans. Bluehost does offer monthly payments on its more premium services such as VPS, Cloud, and Dedicated Server hosting plans.
  • Paying for web hosting on an annual basis with Bluehost provides you with free domain registration and saves you more money long term.
  • Alternatives to Bluehost include HostGator, DreamHost, and A2 Hosting for those looking for monthly payment options.

Does Bluehost Charge Monthly Or All At Once?

So can you pay monthly with Bluehost?ย No, Bluehostย currently does not charge monthly for their shared hosting plans for new accounts. Bluehost currently only accepts annual payment on the first billing cycle when you sign up for Bluehost.
